Amy DuPree, the owner of The Homeschool House, has a BS from Baylor University in Secondary Education and Business Administration. She is a Teacher certified by the State of Texas in Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Business Education, Special Education, and English as a second language (ESL). She has taught in public schools, private schools, homeschool schools, and spent 2 years teaching in China. Amy brings an incredibly strong social connection to the business as she has been involved in local school, community, and church programs for over 15 years. Amy has successfully taught as a public and private school teacher in grades 1 - 12, and has been homeschooling her own children for over 6 years.
Amy understands that it's an individual decision to have your children in public school, private school, or to homeschool. Each child is different and has individual educational needs. She sees the educational benefits in all educational options and wants to provide educational curriculum and supplies and to provide support to all parents and families.
The need for homeschooling products is growing every year. According to Tim Lambert, President of the Texas Home School Coalition (THSC), Texas leads the country in the number of home schooled children, with an estimate of well over 300,000 children and close to 120,000 families. “Since the Texas courts clarified that home schooling was legal in 1987, we have seen a robust growth of about 6-8% per year.”, says Lambert*.
Amy opened The Homeschool House, in May of 2010, to provide homeschooling products, services, support, and social connectivity to the homeschooling community in Houston, TX. Located near The Woodlands Mall, The Homeschool House has over 5000 square feet of new and used homeschooling curriculum and supplies. Amy built her business model around the social nature of homeschooling. The store provides a comfortable coffee bar, kids area, and a 650 square foot multipurpose room that can be used for classes, tutoring, seminars, or other homeschool related activities.
