Austin Area Homeschoolers - An inclusive group composed of members in the Austin, TX area who are willing to share their homeschooling experiences. 

 

Champion Forest Christian Homeschoolers -a home education support group offered to those who are currently homeschooling their children or strongly considering homeschooling in the NW Harris County area.

 

Conroe Area Christian Home Educators - Since 1988, CACHE has been a cooperative effort supporting the home schooling community in Montgomery County, Texas. 

 

Extraordinary Education - Our goal is to provide classes, activities and support services to families as they seek to meet the educational needs of their extraordinary students. Parents retain control of and responsibility for their child's education.

G-HAH (Greater Houston Area Homeschoolers) - one of the oldest yahoo lists in Texas, we are starting our 15th year online. It is our hope that the Greater Houston Area Home Education list will bring people together and allow you to meet people you would not ordinarily know.

 

HEART - Home Education and Responsible Teaching. Located in Kingwood, Texas, HEART exists to glorify God through supporting one another in our common conviction to "train up a child in the way he should go." (Proverbs 22:6)  We are an organization with Christian leadership, and as a group, we reflect Judeo-Christian principles and operate from a Biblical worldview.  All home educators, regardless of personal beliefs, are welcome for encouragement, support and information.

Heritage Christian Homeschool Support Group - serves home schooling families residing in the NW Houston, Texas area.  They have members from the Cypress, NW Houston, Spring, and Tomball areas.  Activity locations vary; monthly meetings generally have been in the vicinity of Hwy 249 near Cypresswood.

Heaven Sent Choirs - a Christian music education program designed to enrich and develop your child’s natural talent with a solid musical experience. Music fundamentals, performance, and music ministry opportunities are the primary focus of these choirs

 

Home School In Houston -  Homeschooling information hub for Houston, Texas. Where Kids Are Parent-Taught and Naturally-Socialized.

 

Homewood Christian Association - Providing educational and social enrichment opportunities  for The Woodlands area home schoolers since 1996.

 

Homeschool Instructional Support (H.I.S.) Classes  - an association of teachers who have coordinated their schedules to better serve the home educating community.  We believe parents have a God-given responsibility to teach their children. Now offering classes in Tomball/Waller and The Woodlands.

 

Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy - A Private Christian School located in The Woodlands. We meet on a University-Style schedule giving you and your family many benefits that you will be unable to find elsewhere. Legacy PCA is a candidate for accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and AdvancEd.

 

M.A.S.H. - (Montgomery county Area School at Home) - a free inclusive, secular Texas homeschool group for families in or near Conroe, Willis, The Woodlands, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring or for anyone who does not mind the drive. All are welcome regardless of race, religion, homeschooling style, etc... Informal atmosphere.

 

PACES (Parent and Child Educational Services) - a full-service educational organization providing home educating parents with the tools they need. Whether you are just thinking about home education, starting this fall, or a veteran, PACES offers an array of services to fit your family. PACES has an experienced team of qualified parents who are trained to serve as "start-up" consultants, life-coaches and personal mentors. Their staff offers student tutoring and testing services, helping diagnose academic challenges and offering solutions if needed.

 

P.A.L.S. (Parenting, Academic & Leadership Support - PALS is an all inclusive, secular, homeschool support group meeting in Humble, Spring and The Woodlands, Texas.  All are welcome regardless of race, religion, homeschool style, etc... No fees or statement of faith to join.

 

PCAL Christian School  - is a private school with a home school coop atmosphere in The Woodands area.

 

Tomball Christian Homeschoolers - TCH is an association of families in the greater Northwest Houston, Texas area who support and encourage each other to pursue excellence in learning together at home.TCH is a Christian organization, but is open to anyone who wishes to join.

Homeschool Resources

 

The AD Players - focused on training students acting, rather than rehearsing students, and giving them tools that they can use in any theater experience they encounter. We offer a welcoming and encouraging environment to all students.

 

ASLive - An online curriculum using live instructors to teach American Sign Language (ASL) to high school students via video conferencing.

 

The Angels' Drill & Dance Team - a Christian-based dance, cheer, and spirit team for all HomeSchool girls, ages 7 to 20yrs.  We believe in bringing JOY to all local area homeschool sports through dance, cheer, and encouragement! 

 

Badges & Bandages:  offers free, age-appropriate education on the potential legal and medical consequences of drinking and driving. Badges and Bandages strives to make a difference and save lives. To date they have done lectures to ISD's (middle/high schools and faculty), churches, Girl/Boy Scout Troops, Shattered Dreams/Lives, and had booths at public events like Law Enforcement Day.  They recently hosted their own DWI Experience Day, where the public was invited to see inside a mock DWI arrest and conviction.  Another DWI Experience event is currently in the works.  Badges and Bandages was also featured on KHOU news, you can see that story by clicking this link.  The DWI Experience - CyFair Fire Station #6

CYT (Christian Youth Theater) Houston - Dedicated to developing character in children and adults through training in the arts and by producing wholesome family entertainment, all of which reflect Judeo-Christian values. 
 

Deb Evans Photography and Homeschool classes - Deb is offering photography and writing classes at our location in the fall, as well as several Summer Photography and Writing summer camps this summer! 

 

The Health Museum Offers hands-on, interactive homeschool classes for all ages.  Classes are available for students in: Pre-K to 2nd grade, 3rd to 5th grade & 6th to 12th grade. Also offering Hands-on Dissections and classes, Day Camps, Homeschool Family Science Days and Private classes for groups of 15 or more. Institute of Decorum - The etiquette school is a mobile company, traveling throughout the world.  Since manners, politeness and hospitality never go out of style and are recognized worldwide, the Institute of Decorum is committed to bring back the art of civility and social graces.  The school offers training in decorum for children, teens, adults, brides, business professionals/executives. 

 

Instruments of Praise - Instruments of Praise, homeschool band and orchestra, has been serving homeschool families in the Greater Houston area since 1995. Directed by Paul Sommer, these bands and orchestras are known for their excellence in performance and are given a number of opportunities to minister each year. The classes are held once a week at seven convenient locations throughout the Greater Houston area. The locations: Katy, Pasadena, Conroe, Oakridge/The Woodlands, Copperfield, Spring and Sugarland. 

 

KUTA Empowered Women (Smartsafe Self-Defense) -   Smartsafe, ada Women's Commando Krav Maga, is a reality based system designed to be specific and relevant to women's individual daily lives.  They cover psychological and emotional material enforcing a woman's value and worth as well as awareness, prevention and physical self-protection techniques.  Women of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels find the information beneficial.

 

Learning RX - LearningRx brain training centers provide cognitive skills training that empowers anyone of any age to learn faster and easier. Tutoring and other programs reinforce WHAT students must learn (information). LearningRx brain training centers identify and strengthen the skills behind HOW students learn. Little Giant Steps - This is a world where children, teens, and adults can reach greater heights in development, academics, and the workplace. Since 1992, Little Giant Steps has provided helpful solutions for accelerating learning abilities in individuals whether they are gifted or challenged.

 
Mathnasium of The Woodlands -  Mathnasium is a learning center where students go year-round to boost their math skills. They are highly specialized and teach only math. Their program is for students in Pre-K to Pre-Calculus. Members pay a monthly membership fee, and usually attend twice a week for about an hour.  The goal of Mathnasium is to significantly increase your child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

Michael Stringer Music Studio - Michael Stringer Music Studio is North Houston and The Woodlands premiere studio for music lessons and learning; offering piano lessons, voice lessons, piano accompanying, and vocal and instrumental coaching in The Woodlands, TX.

The Sam Houston Project:  Lesson plans, photography, videos, pod-casts & timelines about Sam Houston and his life, as well as lots of great Texas history resources.  This is a great resource for MANY Texas History links.  Great resource for teaching Texas history.

 

Sports Association of Texas for Christian Homeschoolers - Since 2003, SATCH has fielded 65 junior high and/or high school teams including baseball, basketball, football, softball, and volleyball teams. Annually, SATCH provides competitive amateur youth sports to approximately 150 homeschooled athletes and facilitates over 700 annual events including games, practices, tournaments, socials, and fundraisers.

 

Tapestry Of Grace - At Lampstand Press, we are committed to classical Christian education, based on our commitment to God’s glory, our understanding of child development, and a deep appreciation for our cultural heritage.

 

Tomball Christian Warriors - A six man football and cheer program for homeschoolers in the Cypress/Tomball/Magnolia area.  This will be their 2nd year and they're expecting a full squad of players and cheerleaders for another successful season.

 

Tsunami Martial Arts - Christ centered, Discipline & Respect, Dynamic Martial Arts Training.

 

Violin with Kelly - Offers one-on-one private instruction for students ages 5 and up, recommending 30 minute lessons once a week.  

 

The Write Foundation - Offers innovative curriculum, written by a veteran home educator and tested extensively in individual and group settings, has proven effective in enabling average writers to improve their writing skills, as well as energizing reluctant writers. The entire system will teach your student how to effectively plan and write a quality essay from scratch, developing confidence in their writing ability.

 

The Woodlands Academy of Art - teaches on a twelve week schedule, with an ongoing enrollment. Classes are available for all ages begining at pre-k. Each class is limited to 11 students with 2 instructors.  The instruction is individualized for each student, rather than as a group so that each student can progress at their own pace. We teach realistic drawing and painting, with emphasis on proportion, measurement and use of color in different mediums.

 

The Woodlands Learn and Play - a community meetup group helping families find ways to meet other families while kids lear and play.  For stay at home parents, working parents, single or married parents, grandparents, sitter w/youkids and infants who live in the North Houston area.

 


Homeschool Legal/Laws

 

Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) - No one anticipates legal problems pertaining to their homeschooling, but it happens.  HSLDA provides free legal service to its members, if necessary.  If it is not necessary, one should consider it a blessing and know that their membership fees were not wasted.  By contributing to HSLDA, members are protecting the rights of other members across the nation.  Also on this site is a listing of each state's laws and homeschooling organizations.

 

National Home Education Researh Institute - The National Home Education Research Institute's mission is to produce high-quality research (e.g., statistics, facts, findings) on home-based education (homeschooling), serve as a clearinghouse of research for the public, researchers, homeschoolers, the media, and policy makers, and educate the public concerning the findings of all research on home education.

 

The Southeast Texas Home School Association - A non-profit, 501(c)(3), incorporated, Christian service organization established to minister to the home-schooling community in the greater Houston and southeast Texas area. SETHSA is dedicated to the rights of parents to choose the type of home education that is best for their children.

 

The Rutherford Institute - This legal organization helps those whose civil liberties are being violated.  The Rutherford Institute, a Christian organization, is well-known for its efforts in protecting religious freedom.

 

Texas Education Agency - The mission of the Texas Education Agency is to provide leadership, guidance and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students.

 

Texas Home School Coalition - Serving and Protecting the Home School Community of Texas for Over 20 Years!

 

Texas Parent Taught Drivers Education - The Parent Taught Driver Education Program is available to young people between the ages of 14 and 24. However, before the instructor (parent, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, foster parent or legal guardian) begins teaching this course, the instructor must have a valid driver license for the preceding three years. 

 


Testing At Home

  

Bayside School Services -  Administer the CAT to your child at home.  They offer the CAT test at competitive rates.  Several Crossroads' families have stated they are pleased with this company.

 

Bob Jones University -  They offer a variety of tests including the ITBS and Stanford.  Some tests have greater restrictions on the administrator than others.

 

Diagnostic Prescriptive Services - Assessment testing written specifically for home-educated children.  The Diagnostic Prescriptive Assessment thoroughly evaluates the child for mastery of his or her grade level skills in all required subjects instead of comparing them to public school students, who are "taught the test". Their testing service also includes The Concise Learning Styles Assessment, which will determine the child's learning style and explain how best to teach them.  In addition, they are able to provide one-on-one testing for those interested.  Visit their website for additional information on these tests and more.

 

Piedmont Education Services - PES offers the Woodcock-Johnson and ITBS tests.

 

Seton -  They offer the CAT-E Survey Test, which may be administered at home.

 

TAAS - The 2002 edition of the TAAS (the standardized test used in Texas).  This test is free and available for download.  This is excellent for either preparing your child for the TAAS, other standardized tests, or to simply use as a tool for home evaluation.  Since it is not intended for any "commercial" use, this test does not fulfill our testing option.

 

Texas Drivers Education - Approved by the Texas Education Agency, the course is a shortened version of the Texas Drivers Education course. Easy to do and simple to understand, our course is designed to teach you all you need to know to be a safe and responsible driver.

 

Thurber's Educational Assessments - Thurber's offers the CAT/5 test, which may be administered to children at home.  This company has been serving homeschoolers since 1993

 

Virtual Drive of America - State Approved Texas Driver Education Course is compliant with new driving laws that go into affect on September 1, 2009.
